Beethoven’s Symphony №5: more than just ‘ta-ta-ta-taaaa’

Ta-ta-ta-taaaaa. This ‘fate motif’ doesn’t need further introduction. Even those totally out of the classical music world would recognize it as the beginning of L. van Beethoven’s Symphony №5, thanks to its ambiguous ‘fate’. Being used as an omnipresent pop culture artifact, be it a ringtone, film or ads fragment, this beginning became not less than one of the classical music most celebrated emblems.

“Wait, but what exactly is making this Beethoven’s symphony so remarkable?” you may ask. Oh no, it’ s not something to just explain. I want you to experience it bit by bit under some gentle guidance, and make your own conclusions at the end! So, come to our interactive lecture and be ready to:

• Explore the most significant fragments of the symphony. These moments not-no-miss will be listened to and discussed altogether;

• Immerse yourself into a variety of poignant, deeply moving and abruptly changing moods that Beethoven saturates this music with. Might some of these moods then become a part of your exclusive ‘classical library of emotions’ to get inspired by? Who knows!

• Learn from Beethoven by reflection on the dramaturgy of the piece and what-it-can-teach-us today, in these very challenging times.

She strongly believes that classical music can boost our energy and creativity, as well as significantly enrich our emotional experience. She has recently obtained a master’s degree in music theory teaching (Maastricht Conservatory) following a bachelor’s degree in music theory at the same Conservatory.
